WOW: "Singing" The Praises of Gruner Veltliner!

WOW: Wine of the Week

"Singing" The Praises of Gruner Veltliner!
Line 39 WinesGrown most prevalently in Austria, the Gruner Veltliner is an under utilized wine, that is VERY food friendly!  Gruner Veltliner is actually believed to date back to Roman times.  So, while this may be a newer varietal to this continent, it has proven its staying power through the years.  This week's WOW is a shining example of a quality product and one in which illustrates a true representation of the fruit.

Product Description

"Laurenz V was created for white wine lovers everywhere. The winery focuses on a single wine variety--Grüner Veltliner--that has long been a  favorite in its native Austria, where it represents nearly a third of the country's wine grape production. Grüner Veltliner has been  quickly catching on in the rest of the world, too!
Laurenz V is made by the Lenz Moser family, and is the most recent offering in the family's five  generations of wine making experience. The wine comes from the Kamptal and Kremstal areas of lower Austria where the warmth  of the Danube Valley meets the cool air of the Waldviertel region. This combination develops fresh, fruity flavors in grapes  while maintaining excellent acidity. The winery makes two wines—Laurenz V. Charming Grüner Veltliner from Kamptal, and Laurenz  und Sophie Singing Grüner Veltliner, a wine inspired by Lenz' daughter Sophie, predominantly from Kremstal." - Winery Notes

Laurenz "Singing" Gruner Veltliner 2014 Tasting Notes

A very attractive fruit bouquet yields apple, peach and citrus aromas along with a typical Veltliner spiciness and a touch of white pepper. The soft and juicy palate is supported by fine acidity.

Line 39 WinesOkay, okay...we apologize:  ShopUncorked.com's WOW took a Summer hiatus!  The time was used wisely though, tasting MANY new products to offer up to our favorite clientele!  Case in point - A new Washington State Syrah - the perfect companion to usher in cooler temperatures!  AND, under $17 per bottle!

Product Description

"At Tenet wines, we are convinced that Washington state is an exceptional terroir for Syrah and its Rhone Valley brethren. A project between the iconic Washington state winery Chateau Ste. Michelle and the acclaimed Rhone winemaker Michel Gassier, it establishes a parallel between Syrah's cradle and most renowned region, the Rhone Valley, and its tremendous potential on Washington's basaltic slopes.
Chateau Ste. Michelle's Head Winemaker Bob Bertheau and Michel Gassier have combined their experience with the assistance of Southern Rhone's famous enology consultant, Philippe Cambie, and crafted wines from both regions, aiming to show their respective character and their common excellence.'" - Winery Notes

Tenet Wine "The Pundit" Syrah 2014 Reviews

"The finest vintage of this cuvee to date (it’s only the second year for the cuvee though), the 2014 Syrah The Pundit has loads of ripe dark fruits, charcoal, smoked herbs and licorice in a concentrated, rich, yet always balanced and fresh style. Made from 88% Syrah, 6% Grenache and the rest Mourvedre, aged mostly in French oak (which is a positive change from the American oak used for the 2013), with a small part in concrete, drink this pleasure-bent effort over the coming 4-5 years."  - 92, Wine Advocate

Tenet Wine "The Pundit" Syrah 2014 Tasting Notes

The color is deep purple with ruby highlights. Ripe cherry and plum aromas are complemented by earthy undercurrents of smoky cocoa and cola, and highlighted by traces of citrus blossom and lemon. A very smooth mouth feel glides into a long silky finish with flavors of red cherry and blackberry, hints of toasted vanilla, and a tantalizing slate element.
Blend: 88% Syrah, 6% Grenache, 4% Mourvedre, 2% Viognier
